First Minister John Swinney visits the Acorn Project
The Acorn and Scottish Cluster partners recently met with the First Minister, John Swinney at the St Fergus gas terminal to discuss the project and opportunities to work together to drive the Scottish Cluster to delivery.
Acorn aims to provide a CO₂ transport and permanent storage solution for a diverse range of industrial CO₂ capture projects across Scotland and beyond, enabling the safe transport of CO₂ to the north east where it can be safely and permanently stored under the North Sea.
Alongside the visit, the Scottish Government announced new funding support for National Gas’s SCO2T Connect project.
Commenting on the visit and funding announcement, Nic Braley from Acorn said:
“We welcome the Scottish Government’s support for the SCO₂T Connect project, and the recognition of its importance for the decarbonisation of Scotland's industry.
“The Scottish Cluster, with Acorn at its core, and the UK and Scottish governments can collectively make a major contribution to UK net zero commitments, supporting ambitions for clean energy, green prosperity and value for money.
“We look forward to working with both governments to make the Scottish Cluster a reality."
