Acorn response to Project Willow report on the future of Grangemouth

Acorn General Manager, Nic Braley, has welcomed a report on the future of Grangemouth and the role of Acorn and the Scottish Cluster in the site’s long-term viability.
Responding to the Project Willow report, based on a joint-funded study by UK and Scottish governments, Mr Braley highlighted the role of CCS in providing decarbonisation and future fuels opportunities at the site.
“We welcome the publication of Project Willow, which highlights the huge opportunity for low-carbon initiatives to be developed at the Grangemouth oil refinery site.
“The report makes clear that securing a final investment decision (FID) for Acorn is essential to Grangemouth’s future. Acorn is Scotland’s only CO₂ transport & storage system and is inherent to the workstreams that will ensure the long-term viability of Grangemouth. Access to Acorn’s CO₂ transportation and storage network will reduce emissions from the site and is the catalyst for developing cleaner fuels that will unlock new market opportunities.”
In his statement, he also called for an update from the UK government on the Track-2 CCS projects to proceed with the Acorn and Scottish Cluster development, to ensure Scotland is not left behind in the UK’s industrial strategy.
“We continue to urge the UK government to provide urgent clarity on support and timelines for Acorn as a Track-2 project. Acorn is Scotland's pathway to industrial decarbonisation, driving economic growth, creating and safeguarding thousands of jobs and delivering the much-needed CCS infrastructure for the energy transition.”
