St Fergus Primary School
Towards the end of 2020, Acorn’s specialists took part in two virtual Acorn Education workshops with P5/6 and P6/7 students at St Fergus Primary School. The objective was to educate the students about climate change, carbon capture and storage (CCS) and the project that is happening in their local area.
The communication team managed to secure a local graffiti artist to bring the local primary school students’ artistic impressions of the project to life for a community mural in the school playground, as well as organising an online art workshop with the artist to keep the students busy over lockdown and make their drawings and ideas come to life.
The team also ran an event in the school summer holidays as part of the ‘Acorn Education’ programme at the ‘Wild About Aden Summer Festival’, at Aden Park in Mintlaw. Despite severe weather warnings, they had families queuing out the door wanting to take part in the ‘Acorn Education’ science experiments!
By the final afternoon session 180 people had worked through climate change, CCS and hydrogen related science experiments. The kids artwork from the Acorn Education art call was featured on the wall for display.
