Exploring CCS with Bucksburn Academy Energy Pathway Students
Thursday 23rd April 2026, Bucksburn Academy
Bucksburn Academy is now in its third year of running the Energy Pathway programme, which helps S3 students explore a wide range of energy topics and discover potential career pathways in the low-carbon sector.
Acorn has been proud to support the programme once again with industry-led talks and some hands-on, CCS-themed science activities.

This session focused on carbon dioxide and the existing infrastructure in north-east Scotland that can help us manage it. Students investigated the impacts of carbon dioxide on our oceans, took on the challenge of project-managing and health-and-safety-checking a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project, and examined the properties of rocks found deep beneath the North Sea.
The Energy Pathway programme continues to give young people valuable, real-world insight into the energy industry, inspiring this generation to play their part in building a low-carbon future for north-east Scotland.
